The Connected Region

This Regional Indicators Report acknowledges the strong relationship between a vibrant economy and a robust regional transit system. Whether it’s a critical support to connect people to jobs and greater self-sufficiency, or a preferred mode of travel for a young professional seeking to live without a car, transit matters. We look not just at transit (scheduled bus and rail services) but also at multiple modes of travel that interact with public transit and that support a lifestyle that is less dependent on private cars for everyday needs. These include walking and bicycling, but also on-demand and sharing systems for both bikes (Red Bike) and cars (Zipcar, Uber, Lyft).

2014 Regional Indicators Report

If we are to achieve economic prosperity, we must perform a critical self-examination of our performance. This project monitors 15 key indicators which we have grouped under the headings of “People” and “Jobs.” Knowing where we rank on these key factors is an important step in fulfilling the vision of Agenda 360 and Vision 2015-to become a leading region for talent, jobs, and economic opportunity for all who call our region home. Equally as important to the indicators is the comparison to those regions with which we compete. For this reason, we matched Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky against 11 peer metropolitan statistical areas selected for their similar geography, population size, and/or demographic makeup, and because they often compete with us for people and jobs. An interactive Data Portal is included for users to review complete results.

2020 Jobs Outlook

Agenda 360, Partners for a Competitive Workforce, the Strive Partnership and Vision 2015 have collaborated to produce this report because we know that skilled talent drives regional economic prosperity. Yet our region has consistently ranked in the bottom third on education attainment rates, when compared to the peer regions in our Regional Indicators Report. Our intent with this project is to forecast our region’s job outlook: where the jobs will be in 2020 and what education and training will be in highest demand. While we know the data presented here are not destiny, this report is a valuable directional guide for targeting our job creation and workforce preparation efforts to accelerate growth in our regional economy. Using these data, we can prepare our workforce for in-demand jobs and reach our community’s Bold Goals to have 45% of adults in our region hold an Associate’s degree or higher and 90% of the labor force gainfully employed by 2020. Armed with new insights, we will identify opportunities to build career pathways for current workers and the students in our local talent pipeline. We will engage our educational institutions to align academic programs, curriculum, and credentials to better respond to labor market needs. Finally, we will help jobseekers and students understand the education and training required for jobs with high growth potential and good wages.
